The UK's food poverty rate is among the highest in Europe, despite being the sixth richest country in the world. The UK government details that 4.2 million (6%) were living in food poverty in 2020 and 2021. With the cost of living crisis currently facing the UK, this is only getting worse. The Food Foundation reports that a total of 9.3 million adults experienced food insecurity in January 2023.
The UN Sustainability Development Goal 2 Zero Hunger details that its target is to end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
This is why we wish to support the people and the charities who are working with the most vulnerable when it comes to food, to ensure that they are meeting all legal food safety requirements and supporting them with any EHO queries they may have.
We are committed to provide this support free of charge for charities who are solely staffed by volunteers. This can be completed remotely if required or can be completed on site in the local area.
